ਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਥਾਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਕੋਵਿਡ-19 ਦੇ ਖਤਰੇ ਕਾਰਨ N95 ਮਾਸਕ ਪਾਉਣ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਸ਼ੇਵ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ‘ਚ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਧਾਰ ‘ਤੇ ਛੋਟ ਮੰਗਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਕਿਓਰਿਟੀ ਗਾਰਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਸਮੇਤ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਸਿੱਖ ਸਕਿਓਰਿਟੀ ਗਾਰਡ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਕੰਮ ‘ਤੇ ਲਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਕੰਟਰੈਕਟਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਧਾਰ ‘ਤੇ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਟਵਾ ਸਕਦੇ, ਉਹ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਸਮੇਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਸਕਣਗੇ। ਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ 100 ਸਕਿਓਰਿਟੀ ਗਾਰਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਕੰਟਰੈਕਟਰਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤਬਦੀਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਜਾਂ ਕੰਮ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਦੱਸਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਵਰਲਡ ਸਿੱਖ ਆਰਗੇਨਾਈਜ਼ੇਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
Birkawal Singh Anand is one of more than 100 Sikh security guards now waiting to see if their jobs will be restored after the City of Toronto directed security contractors to reinstate them.The men had lost their jobs because of a city directive that required them to shave their beards in order to wear N95 masks at work.
The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) made the issue public on July 4, saying the men should not only get their old jobs back but should also be paid for any time that they’ve missed because of the directive.Anand, 21, who worked for ASP Security, received his first email warning him that he needed to shave in order to be fitted with an N95 mask, as per the City of Toronto policy, in order to continue working at city sites on June 15.
