CHAMBA: The scheduled programme of Punjabi artist Ranjit Bawa in the Chamba’s traditional Minjar Mela has been canceled under the pressure from Hindu organziaitons of the hill district.
State vice president, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Himachal Pradesh (HP), Dr Keshav Verma informed that Bawa’s programme which was scheduled for July 26, the 3rd day of Minjar festival had been canceled. Deputy Commissioner, Chamba, D C Rana confirmed the cancellation of Bawa’s function.
Earlier on the day, leaders of various Hindu organizations of Chamba including VHP, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran Manch, Brahamin Sabha, Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Purv Sainik Parishad, Sewa Bharti handed over a memorandum to DC Chamba demanding to cancel the programme of Bawa else they would stage protests.
Stating that the management team of the Minjar festival should have not invited any controversial artist, Verma claimed that all the local Hindu organizations had hailed the decision of the Chamba administration to cancel Bawa’s programme.
Notably, the Hindu organizations of Chamba are fuming against Bawa for his alleged objectionable remarks hurting Hindu religious sentiments in the past and had asked the local administration to not allow Bawa to participate in the Minjar Mela.
