Canada’s Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, has countered remarks made by India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, over the arrests of three Indians in the Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case. Criticised by Jaishankar for allowing in people with criminal links, Miller said Canada wasn’t “lax on immigration”.

‘ New: Canada’s Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, responded to Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent comments about Canada welcoming criminals. Minister Miller was also asked to confirm whether the three Indian nationals involved in S. Nijjar’s killing entered Canada on student visas.
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਇਮੀਗ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮਾਰਕ ਮਿਲਰ ਨੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਐੱਸ. ਜੈਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਟਿੱਪਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਢਿੱਲ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਿਲਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵੀਜ਼ੇ ‘ਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਜੈਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਜ਼ਾ, ਮਾਨਤਾ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ‘ਚ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਣ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਕੈਨੇਡਾ), ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ’ਚ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।’ ਮਿਲਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਅਸੀਂ ਢਿੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਹੈ।’ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵੀਜ਼ੇ ‘ਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਪਰਾਧਿਕ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Marc Miller shared that Canada does do criminal background checks of Indians arriving in Canada on student visas. Which would imply that Indian police forces may have intentionally not shared criminal records of applicants where they exist.
Minister Miller also rejected claims made by India’s Foreign Minister Jaishankar that Canada’s system was lax in welcoming Indian criminals into its country. It is unclear from Jaishankar’s statement why the Modi regime would allow criminals to leave India if it is known to Indian officials that they are wanted criminals there.
The Sikh community has believed for time now that India is intentionally hiding criminal records from Canadian immigration officials of Indian applicants for temporary visas. This would explain, community members share, how members of the Bishnoi Gang, which allegedly have links to Indian authorities, have freely left India and entered Canada on student visas.
Surrey Newton MP Sukh Dhaliwal rose in the House of Commons to speak about motion M-112. He emphasized that Canadians have the right to feel safe & secure in their communities. M-112 aims to hold accountable any person or agents of a foreign state undermining Canada democratic institutions, engaging in acts of violence, or intimidating diaspora communities in Canada.
