Canada to set temporary resident targets for the first time this fall
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਇੰਮੀਗਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮਾਰਕ ਮਿਲਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਸਥਾਈ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ 2023 ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਆਬਾਦੀ ਦਾ 6.2 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ 2027 ਤੱਕ ਇਸ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਨੂੰ 5 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਤੱਕ ਘਟਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਅਸਥਾਈ ਵਰਕ ਪਰਮਿਟ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ (temporary work permit programs) ਦੀ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਲੇਬਰ ਮਾਰਕੀਟ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਵੀ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੇਸ਼ ਅਸਥਾਈ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ “ਆਦੀ” ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਬਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਇਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵੀਜ਼ਿਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਸਖਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਹੁਣ ਵਰਕ ਪਰਮਿਟ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਵੀ ਸਖਤੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਵਿਜ਼ਟਰ ਵੀਜ਼ੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਖਤੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

For the first time, Canada will set targets for the number of new temporary resident arrivals to the country, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced Thursday.
The federal government plans to decrease the number of temporary residents to five per cent of the population over the next three years, down from the current 6.2 per cent.
The first targets will be set in September.
