ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ, 23 ਅਪਰੈਲ / ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਅਨ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਰਕ ਵੀਜ਼ਾ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤ ਛੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਵਰਕ ਵੀਜ਼ਾ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ‘ਸੀਮਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ’ ਹਨ। ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਅਨ ਬਰਾਡਕਾਸਟਿੰਗ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਏਸ਼ੀਆ ਬਿਊਰੋ ਦੀ ਮੁਖੀ ਅਵਨੀ ਡਾਇਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਵੱਖਵਾਦੀ ਹਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਿੱਝਰ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਿੰਗ ‘ਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਤਰਾਜ਼ ਕਰਨ ਬਾਅਦ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ 19 ਅਪਰੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਪਿਆ।
Australian journalist Avani Dias claimed on Tuesday that she had to leave India “abruptly” as the government told her an extension of her visa would be denied as her reporting has “crossed a line”.
Dias, who worked in India as the South Asia bureau chief for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) since January 2022, left the country last week.

Punjabi Press Club of BC unanimously condemns the Indian government for forcing Australian journalist Avani Dias to leave the country. The world’s so called largest democracy is outraged by her documentary on the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar and has refused to extend her work visa. This is another case of assault on press freedom.
